Karunai

Our Story

For Xavier Dorai, there was no greater source of pride than the life which he and his wife, Mary, had built for their sons. Nick and Noel had grown up in a safe and loving environment, with ample access to high-quality nutrition and education. This was not an accident but rather a carefully curated outcome, informed by Xavier's acute awareness of just how rare such circumstances are - and the tragedy that ensues in their absence.  Born and raised in India, Xavier had never forgotten the millions of children who lack access to such essential accommodations as clean restrooms at school or enough calories to support their growth.  He knew that the cycles of poverty in Indian communities were perpetuated by infrastructures wholly incapable of facilitating the development of their youth. Fix the infrastructure, and the children will prosper. When the children prosper, they will lift their communities out of poverty. When Noel suggested that the family found a charity on this principle, Karunai was born. We believe that the Indian youth are the key to economic development in their country's impoverished communities.
